Tatting Shuttles are basically thread holders used by tatters. Tatting is the process of making
a particularly durable lace consisting of a series of knots and loops. I was introduced to this art form by a young
lady named Alix who I observed in animated conversation with my wife while we were at a craft show. I learned that Alix
was excited about the fact that one variety of tatting shuttle bears a remarkable resemblance to my 2-glass wine glass caddy
(Alix is an avid amateur tatter) and that I was willing to learn more about tatting and to create some shuttles for her and
other members of her tatting club.
My shuttles are handcrafted from
domestic and imported (some would say exotic) hardwoods. They are sanded silky smooth and finished with hand-rubbed
Danish oil.
